How to Style After Your Hair Transplant How to Style After Your Hair Transplant
After a successful hair transplant procedure, a new hairstyle or look will probably be at the top of your to-do list. Even though this is a standard reaction, surgeons recommend that you wait a couple of weeks before you use any kind of styling products for the sake of your hair and scalp. Give the worked on area some time to heal before exposing it to heat and hair cosmetics.

Styling Tips after Your Hair Transplant Surgery

New grafts Usually, the transplanted hair will fall out in the first few weeks after the surgery, and new, permanent hairs will take their place in the following three to six months. In most cases, new hair will grow at a rate of half an inch per month. It is important that you remain patient as you wait for the new hair to come in. Shampoo It is recommended that you don't shampoo your hair immediately after the surgery. You should hold off on washing the affected area for at least two weeks after the procedure. Once you receive the go-ahead from your surgeon, it is best that you use a mild formula or baby shampoo because they don't contain additives or harsh detergents that can irritate your new grafts. If you were using a special anti-dandruff shampoo before the procedure, consult your doctor before going back to it. Heat treatments You should let you hair dry on it's own for the first week after the procedure since the donor site may be numb, and you would not be able to feel it heat up. A dryer can also damage hair follicles as they heal. When you resume your regular styling routine, make sure any heating is done at a low setting. Hair dye and other cosmetic chemicals Due to the fact that hair follicles tend to be more sensitive after the procedure and might react differently to the chemicals found in dyes and other cosmetic products, surgeons recommend that you hold off on such styling practices for at least three weeks following the transplant. Sprays, mousse, and gels It is okay to start using hair spray, mousse, or gel about two weeks after your surgery. However, you should still check with your surgeon regarding when exactly you should start using hair styling products. Mousse can be particularly helpful after a hair transplant procedure since it is used to create volume and make your hair appear fuller. Haircuts In most cases, patients recovering from a hair transplant procedure are advised to wait around three weeks before going for a haircut.
